Nutrition

The eligibility criterion is simple: KU provides food to those who cannot afford it.  Most KU beneficiaries live far (up to 3.5 hours) from CHUB, so families are unable to access home-grown food and other support systems on which they normally subsist.  Poor nutrition at the hospital impedes healing and can predispose patients to additional complications.

Beneficiaries receive healthy, well-balanced meals twice each day.  Sosoma (soy, sorghum, maize powder) porridge with milk is served in the morning; and lunch consists of a starch, beans, vegetables, mushrooms, dried fish, a whole avocado, and an egg every day.
